The Department of Psychology was established in 2014 at the time of the inception of the University. The Department runs M.Sc. Psychology and Advanced PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling. The Department has well established psychological laboratory having advanced psychological tests and equipments. Both theoretical and applied oriented psychology courses are taught. The Department gives special emphasis on skill enhancement and values so that the students can work in a wide variety of settings including teaching, research, hospitals, counselling centers etc. The focus is on to train them to become effective and competent professional, psychologist and academician.
The Department gives special emphasis to hands on experience and practical exposure. Therefore, the provisions are incorporated in curriculum for internship training and visits to hospitals, counseling centers, rehabilitation institutes, special education schools, de-addiction centres so that they are exposed to the clinical work, acquire and upgrade their professional skills. The Department organizes International and National Webinars, Seminars, workshops, extension lectures time to time. Besides, the Department also organizes visits to Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Psychiatry in medical colleges. Educational tours and field visits are also organized from time to time.
Teaching Staff:
The Department at present has experienced senior faculty engaged on regular and contract basis. At present the following faculties are working in the department:
- Dr. Sonal Shekhawat: Dr. Sonal Shekhawat is the Coordinator of the Department. She has more than 7 years of teaching experience and published 12 research papers & articles in International & National Journals, Edited Books and Conference proceedings.
- Dr. Kalpana Sharma: She has 3 years of teaching experience, published 12 research papers and articles in International and National Journals and published an Edited Book on “Health Care Challenges in India: Psychological Perspectives”.
- Dr. Sangeeta Sharma: She has 13 years of teaching experience, 24 Research Papers published in areas of Developmental, Clinical and Positive Psychology, book published on “Suicide ideation and its risk factors among adolescents”.
- Dr. Lalita: She has 6 years of teaching experience, 8 research papers, 2 chapters published in area of Positive Psychology and Organizational Psychology and published an Edited book on “Aging & Mental Health”.
- Ms. Sunita Nimbria: She has 7 years of teaching experience and published 5 research papers in international and national journals.
Future Plan:
- To start B.Sc Honors Psychology and PhD programmes.
- To establish physiology and bio-feedback laboratory.
- To strengthen existing laboratory.
- To start new programs in clinical and health psychology.
- Counseling and guidance services to the students and general masses are provided by the department only for two days in a week and the department will try to extend it for all six days.

Chaudhary Bansi Lal University has made an unpretentious start in 2014. Since then it has achieved the status of leading educational institute. The Department of Psychology established in the year 2014, is an esteemed department and has always aimed to enlighten the path of its students. The department has well equipped laboratory with modern equipments and psychological tests. Along with class room teaching and practicals, special emphasis is being given for internship training, project work to enhance their skills. The department provides need based counselling services to the students and general masses. The department has a team of dedicated teachers who are always ready to help their students.

Course Type : Post Graduation
With an intake of 40 students the department was established in 2014. Initially the Department offered a Post-Graduate programme in M.A. (Psychology). Subsequently from the 2nd year the degree was converted to M.Sc. (Psychology) with an intake of 20 students to prepare qualified professionals to cater to the needs of society. The objective of the master’s programme in Psychology is to equip the students with professional knowledge and skills by imparting advanced training in different specialisations of psychology, the department aims to prepare, the students to be excellent academician and professionals equipped with knowledge and skills. The course is highly job oriented and has good demand in government and private sector. The students are given rigorous training giving significant emphasis on theory and practicals. There is provision in the curriculum for field training, and projects work to enable them to develop and refine their skills as both researcher and professional. From the academic session 2020-2021, the student’s intake has been increased to 40.
Bachelor Degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks in aggregate (42.75% in case of SC/ST/Blind/Visually/ Differently Abled etc. candidates).

Keeping the increasing demand of trained guidance and counselling professionals, the Department of Psychology is starting an Advanced PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling with an intake of 20 seats from the session 2021-2022. The curriculum is so designed that it lays emphasis on theoretical as well as practical training. The provision of internship gives them opportunity to equip themselves with skills required to become an excellent guidance worker as well as an expert counsellor.
