The Department of Geography was established under the Faculty of Earth, Environment and Space Sciences in 2014 with the commencement of the University. Presently, the department offers the Post Graduate Degree (Master of Science) in Geography, PG Diploma in Geoinformatics and Ph.D. with major thrust on field and lab-based learning.
The main thrust areas of the Department are Geomorphology, Climatology, Environmental Management, Urban and Regional Development Planning, Planning, Development and Management of Agriculture Resources, Disaster Management etc. The department is putting its special focus to inculcate the quality education in the command area of university and empower the rural communities especially farmers to deal with the present challenges faced by the agrarian community due to environmental degradation and climate change especially in the south western part of Haryana. The department offers 50 seats (along with two supernumerary seats for the residents of Prem Nagar Village) in M.Sc. course.
The department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Netra Institute of Geoinformatics Management & Technology (NIGMT) Foundation, New Delhi as a Training, Skill and Placement Partner for three academic years. The department is conducting Socio-Economic and Physical Field Survey for the development of research thrust among students. The department has prepared its own academic calendar and organizes activities and events of academic importance regularly. The department has major focus on collaboration with other institutes and industries to build up academia-industry relationship.
Vision
To provide the teaching and educational experiences of the highest quality, promotion of scholarly activities, academic freedom and diversity of ideas and conduct of vital research that benefits society with a global perspective.
Mission
- To promote the theoretical knowledge along with special focus on practical and field based activities for promotion of comprehensive understanding of all realms of geographical studies.
- To increase the visibility of Department as a research department through faculty scholarship, research grant activities and international collaborations.
- To provide the best educational experience to our students through innovative teaching, engagement with the community and stakeholders
Message of the Dean: -On behalf of all our faculty, staff and students, welcome and warm greetings!
It is with great honour and pleasure that I extend best wishes to you all on behalf of the entire faculty. The faculty is committed to promote good academics and research in the university. At different departments of the faculty, students learn from the faculty members who are educated in renowned educational institutions and carry extensive knowledge both of real world and academics. Our faculty members are excellent in teaching and research, and regularly publish in top academic journals. They bring innovation and diversity to the classroom, which helps us deliver memorable learning experiences to students. In addition to this, students also get chance to interact with specialists and alumni, who help broaden their understanding about various concepts through their own experiences. I assure to our students and parents that they will learn many new things and add several new dimensions in his/her academic life while studying in the university.
