21st Century Psychology: Opportunities & Challenges
The history of scientific psychology is about 150 years old. In this short span of time it has faced many challenges and at the same time has
established several milestones. It is the scientific discipline which has progressed very fast and has spread its wings in several directions. It is one of the specialty of behavioral science which has thrived in times of crisis, may it be world war or other type of crisis situation. The current COVID -19 pandemic has also highlighted the importance of this discipline. The world order is changing fast and despite the advancement in science and technology the problems faced by humans are far from over rather newer kinds of problems are arising. The changing socio cultural dynamics, break up in traditional family systems in south Asian region, the rapid urbanization, industrialization has brought about
new kinds of problems. These and some other problems have resulted in increased level of stress and strain which is affecting the health and leading to various kinds of psychological problems. At the same time the problems have given opportunities to psychologists and new avenues have opened up. Despite having made so much progress the scope of psychology seems to be limitless and the 21st century is going to be the time where psychology can reach its peak. But at the same time there are challenges and if not careful we may get distracted and can do harm also. To discuss and deliberate these and other related issues, the Department of Psychology is going to organize a two days International Seminar on the theme “21st Century Psychology: Opportunities and Challenges” scheduled on November 20th and 21st, 2021.
