Established in 2014 with the very inception of the University, the Department of English offers 60 seats in the Postgraduate programme of Master of Arts. From 2019-20, the department has started the Ph.D. Programme. With quality teaching-learning experience provided by highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty, the Department can boast of being the crowning glory of the University. It offers a newly framed syllabus that has been updated keeping in mind the NEP and international parameters of higher education. The students are regularly involved in interactive sessions through Audio-Visual aids supported by Computer Laboratory. Apart from imparting knowledge related to syllabus, the students are also engaged in research-oriented activities through self- study paper and seminar presentation. The Department also regularly organizes extra-curricular activities like quiz contest, declamation contest, seminar etc.
Vision
To enable the students, attain excellence in the literary as well as linguistic skills and enhance their critical faculties so as to develop diverse perspectives to cultivate professional skills as well as to approach human life in multiple dimensions
Mission
To enable the students to develop the skills in academic writing and critical thinking to be able to face the challenges in academic as well as professional sectors
To help them explore their identities, values and morals to become good citizens and sensitive human beings
To empower the students with the knowledge of the literatures in English through the study of literary classics, socio-literary history, literary theory and critical approaches
The Department of English is usually the most dynamic and vibrant department of a university. With a sustained effort at the holistic development of its students, co-curricular activities like poster making, quiz contests, dramatic performances and debates and declamations go hand-in-hand with the academic pursuits. With its overarching approach to the literary writings—local as well as global—the department offers an ambience for creating a better human society where there are no ultimate truths but multiple perspectives; where there are not just meta-narratives but the accounts of most ordinary lives as well; where there are loud declamations, but low whispers, too. The department of English is built on the strength of trust in the capabilities of its students who, with their untiring efforts to cast away ignorance, are persistently engaged in the adventure of learning. Hence, the students try to seek an understanding of human life and learn to articulate themselves in such a way that their voices are heard.
I take great pride in my students, who with great faith in the profound experience and deep knowledge of their teachers, only claim to be better, greater and more profound than their own selves only. Learning, in the Department of English, hence, becomes a two-way process. It becomes an experience for the teacher as well as the taught, too. In this new session, I once again wish that through their literary pursuits and their aptitude for research, the students of this department may attain better knowledge of human life.
